Radeon HD 5870: HDMIビットストリームHD音声出力が可能なビデオカード登場

関連情報（10/2追記) : PowerDVD9 Ultraは近日フリーのアップデートを行い、Radeon5xxxシリーズでHDMI　bitstreaming of full quality Blu-ray audio content が可能になる。(AVSフォーラム:10/2）

サイバーリンク社Tom氏によると、このアップデートで、PAPをサポートしたRadeon5xxxでのロスレスオーディオのビットストリーム出力がPowerDVD9 Ultraで可能になるようです。プレリリース版で動作検証が行われていますが、現行市販PowerDVDでは不可能です。

関連情報（10/24追記）：未だビデオカードからのビットストリーム出力に対応した再生ソフトウエアは出ていませんが、この件に関するソフトメーカーの面白い考え方が出ています。下は公式Forumに投稿された、Total Media TheaterをリリースしているArcsoft社のJason氏の見解です(10/19)。ニッチバージョンを熱望するマニアに対して、マーケッティングを意識したもっともな意見を述べています。

関連情報（11/2追記) : PowerDVD build 2227アップデートパッチ公開。シアターモードでの動作改善で、ビデオカードでのビットストリーム出力は不可。巷間ささやかれるPowerDVD10へのアップグレードが現実味を帯びてきました。ロスレスHD audioのビットストリーム出力の件は Doom9の ffdshow tryouts projectでも静かに進行しているようです。

関連情報（11/5追記) : CyberlinkのTom氏のAVS Forumへの投稿記事によると、Radeonでビットストリーム出力が可能なPower DVD9 Ultraのアップデートパッチは今月末にリリースされるそうです。それにしてもForumがカスタマーサポートとして活用されている状況はなんともうらやましい限りです。以下AVS Forumより転載。

We can’t always comment on new developments… or at least we like to wait until we have a definite answer. I know everyone noticed the reviews for the ATI Radeon 5000 series graphics cards, where certain reviewers were using a pre-release version of PowerDVD 9 to demonstrate HDMI bitstreaming of Blu-ray audio. Support for this feature will be in the next PowerDVD update (patch), which will be available later this month. I don’t have a firm date on this, but we’re trying to expedite it. Please keep in mind that each of our regular updates includes fixes for new BD titles and new (or forthcoming) hardware / drivers across the PC ecosystem, and so the feature you are anxiously waiting for isn’t the only thing that we need to include in the update. Of course, each update has to go through a full quality assurance testing procedure, to make sure that none of the changes introduced any new issues.

So… sorry for going quiet on you… but I and others read every post in this thread and other relevant threads, following up as needed (in some cases, directly through private messages on these forums).

関連情報（11/18追記) :ATIがCatalyst9.11をリリースしました。そのRelaese Notesに “Resolved, high bit rate audio from Blu-ray discs might not output when using　PowerDVD 10″ という記載があります。PoweDVD10!? これがAVS Forumでも話題になっていて、CyberlinkのTom氏が以下のようなコメントを寄せています。真偽のほどは？なお同氏によればpowerDVD(9)のRadeon用のビットストリームアップデートパッチは11/27の予定だとか。

Of course we never stop improving our software, but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for PowerDVD 10 at this point. It’s still fairly early in the development life cycle.

 関連情報（11/25追記）：PowerDVD9のバージョンはbuild2320まで上がり、新規購入者に対してのみ配布されているようです。ATI5xxxシリーズでのビットストリーム成功例があるものの、そうではないケースもあり、原因について議論が白熱しています。チャット化した該当スレッドは読むだけで十分楽しめます。11/27はどうなる事やら…..AVS Forum

関連情報（11/27追記）：Power DVD9Ultraのbuild2320が既存のユーザーにも公開されました。早速、Radeon5870で試してみましたが、TrueHDもDTS-HD MAも問題なくビットストリーム出力できます。ただしDenon AVP-A1HDではデコードできず、Integra DTC-9.8では可能です。やはりAuzenと同じ問題を抱えています。PC業界に言わせれば、Denonの方が正規のEDIDを持っていないという事になるのでしょうか。Sapphireの5870とPowerDVD9 buil2320の主な設定に関しては、近日別項を設けて記載してみます。 

To configure your system for bitstreaming uncompressed Blu-ray audio to your AV Receiver with PowerDVD 9 Ultra and your ATI Radeon 5xxx series graphics card, please follow these instructions.

== System requirements ==
OS : Windows 7 or Windows Vista SP2
ATI Graphics Card : ATI 5700/5800
VGA driver : ATI Catalyst™ 9.11 – 8.671
Audio driver : ATI Catalyst™ 9.11 – 8.671 (Please select “custom” and make sure HDMI Audio driver is checked when you install driver)
PowerDVD build : PowerDVD 9.0 v2320
A/V receiver : HDMI input + Dolby Digital+/Dolby TrueHD/DTS Master Audio decoding capability
Configuration : ATI Graphics card -> HDMI 1.3 cable -> A/V receiver -> cable -> TV/Monitor

== PowerDVD setup ==
1. Install PowerDVD 9.0
2. Make sure your cable connections are correct.
3. Launch PowerDVD. Press the settings button
4. Select the Audio Tab from the settings dialog box.
5. Select “Use HDMI” for your Speaker Environment setting.
6. For the Output Mode setting, you will see only two options (PCM and AC3/DTS passthru.).
7. Insert a Blu-ray Disc title with Dolby TrueHD or DTS-MA audio
8. After playback starts, open the Configure PowerDVD Setttings dialog and select audio tab.
9. Select Non-decoded High-def. pass-through
10. If the audio content is a compressed format, your A/V receiver should show that this format is being received and decoded (Dolby TrueHD, DTS MA).
11. To show the source and output audio format you can also enable the on-screen information display (right click on the middle of the PowerDVD window and select “Show Information”)

== Note ==
After connecting your AV Receiver to your ATI Radeon 5xxx series graphics card, you can check Windows 7’s sound control panel to see if the driver has identified the capabilities of your AV Receiver correctly.

In the Sound Control Panel, choose the “ATI HDMI Output” device, then select “Properties”. Under the “Supported Formats” tab you should see DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD in the list of Encoded Formats

 関連情報（12/4追記）：一部のAVアンプで動作しない件についてはどうやらATI Catalystドライバーの問題のようです。非公式ながらAMDからの情報が流れています。来年1月か2月にアップデートで解決予定との事です。

Here is a personal input from inside AMD regarding the 7.1 audio support with ATI Radeon 5000 series on some A/V receivers causing issues to users on the forum.Our SW driver engineers investigated the issue and found that with some A/V Receivers the EDID structure is different from what ATI drivers expect. There are different interpretations of the specs and that caused compatibility issues.Following this investigation, I can share with you that ATI drivers will be updated to support EDID structures such as those found in these A/V receivers above.We expect driver updates with this support to be in Catalyst of January or February 2010.Thanks for all the feedback on this thread.Regards

From the beginning, AMD’s 40nm Radeon HD 5000 series graphics cards have been limited in stock, which is at least partially due to TSMC’s (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) poor yields. The wafer producer supplies both AMD and Nvidia with products, and admitted to manufacturing troubles in October.

Blaming the low yields (about 40%) on chamber matching issues, the company promised to have things straightened out by the end of 2009. TSMC has reportedly kept its word, despite rumors suggesting the shortage might last until the second quarter of 2010.

2. Power DVDを使ったRadeon HD 5870のDTS-HD MasterAudioとTrueHDのビットストリーム再生検証写真 (by AnandTech)

AnandTeck,Ryan Smith氏の９月２３日の記事からの引用です。ブルーレイタイトルを再生した検証です。再生ソフトはプレリリースバージョンのPower DVDを使ったとしていますが、画像からするとbuild2029によく似ています。AVプリは Integra DTC-9.8、プロジェクターはJVC RS2(DLA-HD100に相当）。音声はあっけなく再生されたが、プロジェクターの情報表示で1080i 59.94Hzと表示されるのが疑問だと指摘しています。

音声関連のPowerDVDの設定と情報表示は当ブログの記事、Auzen X-Fi HomeTheater HDで紹介したものとほぼ同じです。
